Work began on the Williamson Library in late July when the Mobile Construction Inmate Detail from the Department of Corrections was moved to the Spalding County Jail to begin working. This group of low security inmates has experience as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers and are putting these skills to good use in Williamson.
Earlier this year, Warden Edd Sanders from West Georgia Pre-Release Center approached the City of Williamson about how to finish out this project. The City then sent a request to the Department of Corrections for the Mobile Construction Crew.
The City of Williamson is buying the materials while the Mobile Construction Crew is providing the labor. "The City of Williamson is saving a lot of money," said Warden Sanders. "They will be here until they finish the whole project."
