ZEBULON - The Pike County Sheriff's Office responded to an accident with injuries at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Highway 19 in the area of Gresham and Patton Road in which a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer collided head-on with a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) truck.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, initial indication is that a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Elizabeth Frances Andersen, age 66 of Zebulon, was traveling south on Highway 19. A GDOT truck was traveling north on Highway 19. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Chevrolet failed to maintain her lane, crossed all lanes of traffic, traveled into the truck's path, and struck the truck head-on. William Franklin Wise, age 61 of Manchester, was driving the GDOT truck.
According to Major David Neal of the Pike County Sheriff's Office, after impact, while traveling to final rest, the Chevrolet driver was ejected from her vehicle. Andersen was transported to Spalding Regional Hospital where she died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. Wise was also injured and transported to Spalding Regional Hospital.
This accident investigation is being conducted by the Georgia State Patrol because of the involvement of a state owned vehicle.
