CONCORD - A little after 7 a.m. this morning, an 18 wheeler with a trailer was traveling on Hwy 18 toward Concord. As the big rig driver came along at Bottoms Road and Hwy 18 by the Dollar General, a vehicle driven by a juvenile pulled in front of the tractor trailer causing the driver to lock down on the brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle driven by the juvenile.
The rig jackknifed but did not hit any vehicles. A wrecker was called to help get the rig and trailer back on the highway. The juvenile continued driving but was pulled over a short distance away. The juvenile was given a citation for failure to yield.
Dana Ogletree was a witness to the accident and sent this statement to Pike County Times tonight: "I would just like to say as a fellow professional driver I want to thank him personally for risking his life and saving my families this morning. He is a hero in my eyes and did what none of us ever plan on doing. He is the definition of a professional truck driver," he said. "My family time could have went totally wrong this morning but his bravery prevented that from happening! Kudos driver!"
