ZEBULON - On May 2, 2023, a wreck occurred on Hwy 19 just past the intersection of Gwyn Street around 12:43 p.m.
A 2017 Toyota Avalon XLE was traveling on Hwy 19 in the left lane when a 1995 International 4000 Series 47 (a rollback truck) was ahead of it and turning left into a private drive. The rollback came to a stop because a forklift was being operated in the entrance of the drive leaving the back end of the vehicle approximately 6 foot 2 inches into the 12 foot wide left lane of traffic.
The driver of the Toyota Avalon stated that he did not see the back of the vehicle stopped in the left lane and struck the back of the vehicle with the driver’s side of the Toyota in the left lane of traffic. The driver of the Avalon, Wayne Cornutt from Molena, stated that he thinks that the a-pillar (the structural framing for the windshield) was blocking his view.
The Toyota came to an uncontrolled stop on the east shoulder of the road with the rollback remaining in place after the collision.
Motor Carrier Compliance Officer Peterson responded to the scene to conduct an inspection of the rollback driven by Adrick Walker of Williamson. Sgt. Gray from the Georgia State Patrol wrote up the incident report and issued a ticket for following too close to the driver of the Toyota.
The two occupants of the Toyota were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
