National Day of Prayer 2014

ZEBULON - The National Day of Prayer Celebration has been held on the Courthouse Square in Zebulon for the past 16 years. Chaplain Ben Maxedon has coordinated this celebration every year and now coordinates through Prayer Power of Georgia, Inc. to allow the community to celebrate on the first Thursday of every year. This 63rd Annual National Day of Prayer was held in Zebulon on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Pike County Courthouse.

Chaplain Ben Maxedon of Prayer Power of Georgia, Inc. gave the opening prayer and Commander Bill Payton, Sr. of the American Legion Post 197 led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Pike County High School Chorus provided the music throughout the entire celebration.

Rev. Terry Hunter of Williamson Methodist Church encouraged the crowd to follow Christ to transform our community, state and country through reconcilliation of God's love. "May American always be a shining and transforming light for the world."

Bill Stembridge read a letter on the behalf of Senator Saxby Chambliss. "It is by God's grace that we are able to gather in the most free and secure country in teh world, and today we ask Him to conitnue to guide us and give us the strength and wisdom to make the right decisions," he said. Chambliss asked a special blessing on those who wore the uniform of the United States and defend our liberties and freedoms and upon their families.

Michael Powell of the Pike Resource Network said that revival begins in us. It starts with humility and turning away from idols to become a person of change in houses and communities. "We have to turn to God first and do what we say we are going to do... Here I am. Change me." He said that there is hope, restoration and change that can be found in humility.

Chaplain Ben Maxedon of Prayer Power of Georgia, Inc. encouraged the audience to look to God and see what He's done with your life. He also praised the Lord for 15 straight years of celebration for the National Day of Prayer. He closed by praying that all would seek God's face and guidance and remember those who have sacrificed so we can gather on the public square.
