ZEBULON - County Manager Bill Sawyer will work his last day in Pike County tomorrow. He praised Pike County and its citizens but said that his priorities have had to change.
“I don’t have any choice,” he said. “It’s time to go for a lot of different reasons and my priorities have to change.”
County Manager Sawyer was asked to sign a contract with the Pike County Board of Commissioners but did not sign a contract when he came to Pike County two years ago. This necessitated an over an hour long commute back and forth to work in Pike County every day.
County Manager Sawyer tendered on April 17, 2012 his resignation in a letter dated the day before. The resignation date was to be effective on June 1, 2012.
Discussion of the County Manager vacancy will be on the agenda for Wednesday’s Board of Commission meeting with specifics to be laid out including chain of command in Pike County, day-to-day operations, timeframe, job search efforts, and anything pertinent to the search for a new county manager in Pike County.
