BREAKING NEWS: 2020 Local Election and Voting Information

ZEBULON - 2020 is going to be a big election year with the Presidential Primary and Election occurring as well as local, non-partisan, state, and federal elections. As of Thursday afternoon, 168 people had early voted on the new voting machines.

Here is list of qualifying fees and local offices that will be on the ballot this year. Qualifying will be held beginning Monday, March 2 at 9 a.m. and will end on Friday, March 6 at noon. The General Election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

Here is a list of the local county and school offices that will be on the ballot in 2020 as well as the current office holders.

Pike County Elected Offices

Commission-Chairman will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Briar Johnson. The qualifying fee is $180 which is 3% of the $6,000 Base Salary.

Briar Johnson, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat. Chairman Johnson will enter this seat with no opposition in January.


*CONTESTED* Commission District 3 will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held Jason Proctor who won this special election in November of 2019. The qualifying fee is $162 which is 3% of the $5,400 Base Salary.

Jason Proctor, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat. He is being challenged by Homer Gibbins, Jr.

*CONTESTED* Commission District 4 will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held James Jenkins. The qualifying fee is $162 which is 3% of the $5,400 Base Salary.

James Jenkins, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat. He is being challenged by Tricia Gwyn.


Tax Commissioner will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Donna M. Chapman. The qualifying fee is $1,392.25 which is 3% of the $46,408.38 Base Salary.

Donna Chapman, Incumbent has qualified for this seat.


*CONTESTED* Superior Court Clerk will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Pam Thompson who was appointed to fill the rest of Carolyn Williams' term when she retired in 2019. The qualifying fee is $1,392.25 which is 3% of the $46,408.38 Base Salary.

Pam Thompson, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat. She will be challenged by Rebekah Hanson.


*CONTESTED* Probate Judge will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Lynn Brandenburg who is retiring at the end of this term. The qualifying fee is $1,392.25 which is 3% of the $46,408.38 Base Salary.

Ginny Blakeney and Brent Taylor have qualified for this seat.


Magistrate Judge will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Marcia J. Callaway-Ingram. The qualifying fee is $1,392.25 which is 3% of the $46,408.38 Base Salary.

Marcia Callaway-Ingram, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat.


Sheriff will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Jimmy Thomas. The qualifying fee is $1,616.40 which is 3% of the $53,880.12 Base Salary.

Jimmy Thomas, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat.

Coroner will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Terrell Moody. The qualifying fee is $298.54 which is 3% of the $9,951.43 Base Salary.

Terrell Moody, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat.

Board of Education

Board of Education District 3 will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Denise Burrell. The qualifying fee is $72. The Base Salary is $100 per meeting up to 3 meetings per month.

Denise Burrell, Incumbent, has qualified for this seat. She is being challenged by Marci Hanson.

Board of Education District 4 will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Beth Camp. The qualifying fee is $72. The Base Salary is $100 per meeting up to 3 meetings per month.

Marcie Bradberry and Chris Childress has both qualified for this seat. Incumbent Beth Camp is running for the State House Representative 131 since Incumbent Ken Pullin has given notification that he is not running for re-election.

District 5 will be on the ballot. This seat is currently held by Emily O’Steen. The qualifying fee is $72. The Base Salary is $100 per meeting up to 3 meetings per month.

State Elected Offices

State Representative, District 131

Incumbent Ken Pullin is not running for re-election.

Closing

After March 6, 2020 when qualifying is complete, Pike County Times will have a list of all of the candidates and will be soliciting a 500 word or less statement on why they are the best candidate for their office as well as their contact information.
